With new games like shadow of mordor , cod advanced warfare gta v a bit later and ac unity (with crazy min req) how much ram does pc need to run these games? Considering a good antivirus and a few non windows background programs. Is 8gb still enough or has time for 16 gb must memory come? I mean vram usage went from 2-3 to 6 so what happened to ram? I know its impossible to know about unreleased games exactly but can you give peak shadow of mordor usage and tell what you think?

Solution
Even 4gbs is fine for most games like BF4, ect. Star Citizen and MMO raids might use more, but otherwise.

I'll try and grab some peak SOM ram usage, but I can tell you it plays fine even on a $500 system. ($500 today, not last year)

yeah, I went into a stronghold, pissed em off and grabbed a bunch of orcs, it never used up more 1.06 GBs of ram.

But SOM is a fairly well-made game.
Not really. 8GB is suitable for most titles. There are a very few like Star Citizen that recommend 16GB but for most titles 8gb is fine. System memory isn't a major issue for the most part when gaming. GPU memory and speed is a much bigger factor than system RAM.

Yes i know its suitable but i mean would these games go above using 8gb with windows and anti vir present if there was more? I could find actual test results (vram usages came up in search only) i am sure someone has tested it with 16 vs 8 though have you seen such test?

Most current titles will NOT show any performance improvement with 16GB of RAM over an identical system with 8GB. It simply does not utilize it that much. I hear tales of upcoming titles that are beginning to utilize it more, but as of yet I haven't seen it in practice, only theory.

1.06 ram wow what settings did you have that seems really low usage. So more than 8 gb not yet needed for gaming it seems. As for ac it has 680 for min and 780 for recommended. Its pretty big difference between 2 cards so a lot of other gou can run between min and rec (sarcastic)
Judging from that its prob as good as watchdogs

these: (it was on the first system in my signature, but I was playing it just fine on the 2nd on in my sig as well while the first one's GPU was in the shop)

Game performance in a lot more about what GPU and CPU you have as opposed to how much ram you have.

I've found recently with Far Cry 4 that it has been taking up all of the remaining RAM on my 8GB system. In 2011 when I set my system up, 8GB was the right amount for gaming. Now with more 64 bit games becoming available, most games will run fine with 8GB RAM, but 16GB should see that RAM isn't a limiting factor. Now I have an R9 290 OC card, the demands on the whole system have increased as I turn the settings up to take advantage of the better GPU. If you're buying new and you want a solid gaming rig, and a medium budget or more, get 16GB now.

We all realise some people have limited budgets - that's why you omit an SSD, or get a GTX760 instead of a GTX 970 or better. But if your budget allows for a $300+ GPU, then you can probably spare $100 for an extra 8GB RAM.

The answer is yes you NEED more than 8gb I know for a fact. cause 3 games so far have used 8019mb total of my ram. GTA5 after 4 hours of playing then I put n cheats started causing mayhem and fire debris and bodies were everywhere game started to glitch bad and I exited. 8019MB had been used right at that point. MSI AFTERBURNER software showed me.

DYING LIGHT also used 8015MB max it uses all ram continually the whole time I play with textures on high. the game originally was released for 16gb of RAM!!! and finally AW uses all of it too if you max it out.

SO YES BUY 16GB of RAM might as well cause you will need it for sure just down the road all games will need 16GB games are starting to require more memory than anything now days.
