I have this old motherboard with a Pentium D Processor 945
(4M Cache, 3.40 GHz, 800 MHz FSB). I am planning to upgrade on Core 2 Duo Processor E6700
(4M Cache, 2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB) but I don't know which one is better.

Solution
Core 2 Duo is faster. It's because of a more efficient architecture, Pentiums were not that great to begin with so making them Dual core wasn't impressive. The C2D's were a big improvement and many were amazing for overclocking.

You would be much better off buying a very cheap motherboard and CPU from a current generation. The Core2 is 8 years old at this point.
