For some odd reason my CPU i believe is throttling my pc down ALOT....when alot is going on it throttles to 30fps from 200+ and ive re-seated and re-applied thermal paste and the heatsink and fan. I am Currently using the CoolerMaster 212 HYPER EVO on a AMD Vishaera 8350 and the mobo is an Asrock 880 LE-GM FX. My average temps never exceed 55c even with a huge load so im totally confused as to why this is happening. I can supply any other needed information cuz lets face it, any gamer knows how frustrating this is especially having a rig like mine =\ All help is appreciated and i hope you guys can help me fix this issue =X Ive also checked my bios to see if theres anything i missed or needed to turn on and still couldnt find anything =\ HELP PLEASE!

Motherboard review on Newegg:

Pros: Inexpensive, with built in graphics and AMD FX CPU capable. Should be a good deal.

Cons: What a hassle. Thought I would upgrade to ~3x the power with an AMD 8350 FX CPU with a cheap MB, cause I don't need fancy graphics...fat chance. CPU keeps clocking down at ~65C no matter what I set in the BIOS. I've checked everything. What up, ASRock?!

Other Thoughts: Got a cheap liquid Zalman CPU cooler...no help at all. Still clocks down, unless I enable AMD C & Q in BIOS and enable it with the IES utility. Then it crashes at ~72C..say wha? That's opposite of how it should work, no? As far as I see, ~$300 in all wasted. This MB seems to have a built in clock down feature. Guess it's not for real time...

Well, there are more parts in a PC than just the CPU.
It could be a number of things.

You never mentioned what graphics card you have, what game your playing, or what detail/resolution your playing at. Does this occur with all games, or just one title?

Since your issue occurs during load I would run a program like Prime95 to stress the CPU & then FurMark to stress the GPU. While doing so, run a program like HWMonitor to see how all of the systems are behaving.

Maybe they will release a beta BIOS to disable it? Please do, ASRock. I'm on WinXP 32bit.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Thank you for your purchase and review.
CPU FX-8350 (125w) is not supported with mainboard due to its power design.

sorry i have not had the time to re-post on this.....my full pc specs are as follows

asrock 880 le gm-FX motherboard
amd vishaera 8350 4.0ghz also have a CoolerMaster 212 EVO heatsink and fan
EVGA 750TI
8gig stock ram ( from my old hp since its all i had extra )
1000 watt Thermaltake Power supply

im sorry for taking so long on reposting ive been in and out of surgery and busy with other things i just really want to get this pc problem sorted out because i honestly dont know where to go again i truly apologize for taking so long to repost and also i read above someone said that the mobo cannot handle the workload and if that is the case can anyone suggest a motherboard that can handle the load please =)

It's easy to fix: buy a motherboard with VRMs powerful enough to support your 125W CPU (the asrock 880 le gm-FX doesn't officially support it). You could add cooling to the VRMs because unlike the AMD cooler that blows down and cools the VRMs, a CoolerMaster 212 EVO doesn't. It's excellent to cool the CPU, but it doesn't help the VRMs. Unfortunately cooling the VRMs may not totally resolve the issue; the best solution is to buy a better motherboard that officially supports your CPU.

Did you read the post above? Your motherboard does not support the cpu. You need a motherboard that has 8+2 phase power and big heatsinks on the vrm section. Otherwise you will continue to get thermal throttling and have terrible performance.

i understand i need to buy a new motherboard.....but im not understanding what you mean by a 8 +2 phase power and big heatsinks on the vrm section...im very new to this whole building a pc so plz try to bear with me lol do you mind linking me to a motherboard that i should buy? and i appreciate all the help you have given me

Ideally you'd buy an ATX motherboard because they usually are better when using a power hungry CPU. Is your case Micro ATX or ATX? I'm asking because your current motherboard is Micro-ATX.

The Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P would meet your requirements, but it requires an ATX case. If you check the pictures, you'll see the 10 VRMs cooled by a large heatsink. That's a lot better than your current motherboard that has fewer VRMs and no heatsinks.

It's a good motherboard, but if you're willing to spend that much on a motherboard, then you should also consider the Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0, the less expensive Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 and a few other 990FX motherboards. A motherboard that supports 220W CPUs like the FX-9590 won't throttle when using a FX-8350.

Absolutely mate - made for high power builds ,8+2 phase , heatsinked vrm's.
Running a 8320 on mine clocked at 4.4ghz which is pulling far more power than your 8350.
There is no throttling at all & vrm's & north bridge are still reasonably cool.
Best am3+ board around for the money easily ,as has been stated though its full size atx so you'll need a new case too.
