My HD 6970 is artifacting and my warranty is expired, so is it a good idea to bake you GPU. Has anyone done it before? Was it successful? Any guides? I heard that it was an amazing trick. Should I try it?

Its like fixing a ps3 with a heat gun, it works for a while but its not a permanent fix. You can try it but there is a chance it will die, if it doesnt fix it buy a new card. Alternatively if you dont have the cash for a new card atm you can try it while you save up but there is a chance you could wreck it just keep that in mind

It can extend the life *for an unknown length of time* of the card. I wouldnt recommend this unless you have the money to buy a replacement.
If you can afford it, but simply dont want to, go ahead and do it. If it works, you get to keep the card for a bit longer, if it fails you have a backup. I would recommend dealing with the artifacts if you dont have the money for a new card.
