need help converting video to audio

hello i have a crap load of video files that i want to convert to mp3 audio sadly most of my videos are in .MP4 file format so audacity and vcl plaer are out of the question what other options do i have and what othjer programs can i use id prefer free programs if possible also the file sizes range from 50 megs to 1 gig and my os is windows xp please help me out

try tsmuxer

when you select the file down near the bottom will be the choice to demux and that is what you will want, and you can uncheck the video portion. If you need to change the audio format that will be something different but this should extract the audio from the mp4 container.

(notes: mp4 and mkv are just what are called containers which is a file that holds video, audio and text information/files)

glad you got your issue solved. Only thing is i would check to see what the file size is of the final audio file compared to the orginal. I say that because I used a program in the past and it almost resulted in a file close to the orginal but when used txmuxer to strip the audio from the container file of *.mp4 and i was left with a much smaller file
