hi there,

I was removing my fans that have the rubber screws in them and a small piece of black rubber from the screws fell into my case.

Its about half the size of a cent or a 5 pence piece maybe smaller and I wasn't able to see where it fell, now i cannot find the damn thing!

I have tried getting it out by lifting and moving the PC to no avail and i cant physically see it anywhere near any components like the GPU or the CPU cooler.

I'm wondering if it is safe just to leave it in there? I don't want it melting and causing damage to a component but don't want to take my PC apart at the same time just to find it.

Can someone shed some light on this please.

Thanks.

Solution
It should be safe if it's just sitting at the bottom of the case, but I would check a few areas first. If you have any cards plugged in to your PCI slots make sure it's not sitting on one of them, especially if you have a GPU with a cooling fan. It's possible that it managed to fall in to the radiator. That could be bad once it starts heating up.

If it gets to the point that it will melt then you have way bigger issues, your going to look in the neighborhood of 300*f before it start to melt. Rubber is also non conductive so if its laying on something it wont short it out. Truthfully unless its stuck in a fan and not allowing it to spin i really wouldnt worry about it.

One place i would check is if it got caught in the cpu heatsink fins, thats the only place i would be concerned with it being left at.

hey i didn't realize i had all these replies before i posted my comment!

Thanks a lot guys I ended up taking my PSU out. It has got a completely solid top and my PSU fan is pointing down into my case so i very much doubt anything could have fallen into it at any point. I've booted it it up and had it running for an hour and nothing is being hampered. :)

also to note, I have a corsair H80i watercooler on my CPU and nothing is caught round the heatsink either.
