Hello, I'm attempting to overclock my 4690k on a ASUS z97-a to 4.6ghz or higher. I currently have it running stable at 4.5ghz at 1.25v. As soon as I stress test it using Intel Extreme Tuning Utility it BSOD's if it's at 4.6ghz no matter what voltage I try. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated. I'm new to OC'ing so if you need any other information let me know.

It seems that you've reached your overclocking ceiling. Usually when you overclock, there's a set pattern between voltage and clock speed. In my case, every 200Mhz increase requires an extra .02V, but once I reach 4.6Ghz, I need an extra .05V and anything beyond that is out of reach.

Unfortunately, overclocking is never an exact science.

Just means the chip can't handle it. The limitation to OCing is not just thermals, its also the luck of the draw with chips. Some chips will BSOD no matter how much juice you feed them with a mild .1Mhz overclock.

I would say you've simply reached the limit with that chip.

Ok, well I did it through the Bios and the same thing happened. So apparently I'm just stuck at 4.5ghz? Not that I'm complaining but it just seems like a waste when my temps aren't that high yet.
