Hi guys. I'm using pcpartpicker.com to find parts for my first gaming pc, with a hopeful budget of around £500. I know the website is supposed to have a compatibility checker, but I'd like to be sure. Here's the link: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/Twtcyc

Also, would these parts be able to play modern games? I'm not talking Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty, but games like Civilisation V, Sims 4 etc.

Could you suggest any cheaper/same-priced parts that would get the job done better?

Doing a quick look I don't see an issue with many games like Civ V (I have played that for many years). To behonest, the best way to check is go through the games/programs you want to play and check their minimum specifications. Write them down. Check them all and in the end you will have a list of CPU/GPU/RAM configurations. You should then choose then components from this list, the parts that will run ALL your programs you want to run.

Being that we don't know everything you are planning to run it is difficult to tell you precisely what will/won't run. Also remember that minimum specs are just that.. minimum required to launch the game. I guarantee you that with Civ V, you'll be wanting MORE than minimum specs come turn 200 or...

I use this site a lot to compare where one GPU/CPU stacks up against another.
