Hi everyone.

I have rather old 2007 computer set. While saving money for full upgrade, I decided to buy some RAM. Currently, I have two planks of Patriot PSD21G8002 and I have bought two planks of Kingmax FLFE85F-B6HY9 HPE (2Gb each, 1333 mHz). My board is Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R rev 1.1. Seller said he checked compatibility and everything should work fine. Before installing new planks, I've read a few articles on installing new RAM and made some basic preparations: BIOS defaulting (by extracting battery for 20 mins, no jumper on this board model), disconnecting power cable, etc. Checked motherboards Memory Support List on site - there are no sign of both old and new memory planks. Cleaned memory slots (in case they rusted over these ~7 years), installed planks, but got stuck on black screen. No looping reboots, no BIOS beeps. Thought I've cleaned slots not to well and tried to install old planks in other DDR2 slots (board has four DDR2 slots and two DDR3) without cleaining the slots - they work correctly just like first ones. Asked for help on other forums, but everyone was telling me that it's either bad planks or something that I've already tried. Only after this (yeah, kinda late ignition) I discovered article about manual changing of BIOS settings, like voltage, latency and frequency.

So, the questions: should I try changing these settings manually? are there any other solutions for this?

Not very familiar with BIOS customizing, so it would be great to get exact instructions.

Now, on timings, frequency and latency:

New planks traits (read on site):
CAS 9
RAS to CAS 9
Row Precharge Delay 9
Voltage 1.5

Current BIOS settings (latest, F12, version):
Memory Frequency (Mhz) 800 800
CAS Latency Time 5
DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay 5
DRAM RAS# Precharge 5
Precharge delay (tRAS) 16
On voltage I was able to find only
DDR2/DDR3 OverVoltage Control [Normal]

Can provide any additional info if needed.

P.S. I'm not native English speaker so, please, go easy on technical terms = )

Hello... Good... it will take a CMOS BIOs Battery removal/reset, to get the MB to DETECT the DDR3 memory type change from the previous DDR2 settings... In the past it took me a few attemps... Too get the MB AUTO Detect feature to work with the NEW DDR3 planks. read your MB/PDF file for the Battery removal/Jumper "CLEAR/RESET".

Reset BIOS multiple times with new planks. Does not work. In BIOS everything is set to [Auto].

Maybe I should better try changing settings manually?

Hello... There are different types of DDR3 memory and the way it is physically wired to the connectors... Your board was created in the early days of DDR3 memory design.
So I question here "How, What, and Where? " Did the Seller check compatibility and everything should work fine" ?
Because I cannot locate information if the units are 1R or 2R data organized Planks and if your MB needs 1Rx? or 2Rx? organized planks?
Can you send a POST PIC of the top and bottom side of your RAM sticks?
Not all DDR3 memory is made with the same " Memory Geometry" and MB's are not made to accept all "Memory Geometry"
My Q77 MB requires non-ECC 2Rx8 DDR3 memory "planks"... this information is important when determining "Compatability".
It might be in your best interest to continue to use and/or Upgrade using just DDR2 memory with this OLDER Board design... There will be no noticeable Speed or BIG performance gains from this DDR3 Upgrade.

Not sure if I clealry understood top and bottom side of sticks, but here they are.

Hello... I need to read the Label and I need to read the chip/brand type used... your Pics will not allow me to ZOOM in on that information. Can you post your pics on a free web poster? so I can Zoom in on it? I feel you have a compatability problem here Since this was New technology at the Time.

Sadly, my camera can't get proper focusing on such a small surface = (

6GBs even though manufacturers site says that it's 4Gbs max for my MB?

And what about buying 1066 freq DDR2 modules?

And also on the topic of this thread: it is useless to try manual BIOS setting? changing freq. to 1333 and new planks latencies?

Hello...
1) http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2551#sp 8GB total DDR2 memory
2) I had two Computers, with Gigabytes P35 and P45 One with 8gb 1066 and the other with 8gb 800 DDR2 there was NO difference... I would not spend extra $$$ for 1066 DDR2 over 800.
3) if you have "Properly" Cleared the BIO's, and the MB can't Read or Set Memory, for the DDR3 "Planks", There is NO other Option? The MB will not accept/read the Memory... and Why worry about? Just fill that board up with DDR2 and get on with a 6gb OS Happy life. B ) And you will have more $$$ saved for your " Full Upgrade ".

These " Frankenstein " Boards were created as a marketing scheme, because DDR3 was NEW and VERY expensive at the time of introduction... but you could put a 775 Quad core into them with 8gb of DDR2... AND it still IS a great running MB and Computer.

If you feel I have not provided the BEST of my Wisdom or Experience to you... please Start another POST such as " P35 w/ DDR2-DDR3 MEM slots Help w/ DDR3 Posting."

Well, I guess everything's on the side of exchanging DDR3 for DDR2 = ) If there's no real difference with freq-cy in my set and also there's possibility of charring my MB and planks, I'd better be calling to store now. 4th time in a week ; )

Anyway, thanks for your help and especially for patience! = )
