no i would not get the 760k since its basically an AMD apu with no integrated graphics. i believe they are the same exact processor with AMD HD graphics disabled. thats the complete definition of a side-grade. the a6-6400k is almost 100% the same cpu as the 760k, minus 100Mhz and a bit of L2 cache.
Sorry, but that is not the case. He is trying to get the best performance out of his XFX HD 7970 GHz Edition. That means he has a Discrete Video Card meaning his IGP will be disabled/not needed. He would be using more money to buy an APU with a IGP when he won't be using it. There is one case an IGP will become useful on an APU and that is when AMD allows it to do physics work like TressFX in the future, but that will probably only work with newer APUs with IGP based on GCN architecture. Next like Rob said the A6-6400K is a Dual-Core Processor while the 750K and 760K are a Quad-Core Processor. As far as I know the 750K is a 5800K with the IGP disabled and the 7600K is the 6800K with the IGP disabled.
Currently I am in a dilemma also. I am using a A4-4000 with a HD 7850 after my A10-6790K died on me. I already have a decent heatsink & fan (CM Hyper 212+) and a AiO Water Cooler (Seidon 240M). I have been waiting for the Carrizo APU/CPU but with the Desktop version supposedly coming out on/after March 2015 I don't know if I want to wait that long. The 750K, 760K, and 860K can all be bought at a similar price. In my opinion I would go with the 860K. It has a higher IPC than Trinity and Richland APU/CPUs and can be overlocked to 4.5/4.6GHz pretty easily apparently. But then again if you want the "BEST" performance for your 7970 and FM2+ platform you would have to wait for Carrizo's release next year which will probably be the last CPU/Architecture to be released for the FM2+ platform.
In Overclock3D's review a stock 860K vs 760K (both using a R7-250 and 1866MHz RAM), the 860K performs better in Sleeping Dogs, same with Tomb-Raider, and worse in Hitman Absolution. But when both use 2400MHz RAM the 860K performs better than the 760K with 2400MHz RAM. When you overlock the 860K obviously it performs better than the stock 760K.
There aren't many detailed benchmarks on the 860K. So even though 860K has IPC improvements because the 760K has a higher OC headroom they will probably perform the same. 750K (Trinity) and 760K (Richland) are very much the same architecture except the fact that the 760K can be OCed higher (Trinity ~4.4GHz, Richland Up to ~5GHz lucky). Buy whatever is the cheapest unless you plan on waiting for Carrizo which is at least 4-5 months away.
