Hi all, some help would be appreciated! I've got an old computer that I want to upgrade the processor on, and after upgrading it it won't get past the "Windows is starting" screen.

According to the list of supported processors it SHOULD be one that works... but the old processor still works fine. Any thoughts? It's got the latest BIOS...

Motherboard:- P5LP-LE (Leonite)
Current CPU:- E6300 (Works fine)
New CPU:- E6600 (Doesn't get past start screen)

For ease, here's a copy/paste stating which CPUs are supported...

Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:

•Core 2 Duo E6x00

•Core 2 Duo E4x00

•Pentium D 9x0 Dual Core

•Pentium D 8xx Dual Core

•Pentium 4 6x1 series

•Celeron D 3xx series

Quick update, it's now booting and getting as far as Windows so it's obviously not an incompatibility problem but then it shuts down after a few minutes. It does have thermal paste etc...

Yeah, I had thought about the Bios but when I tried it said that I didn't meet minimum requirements. The only requirement I didn't meet was that it says that it's for Windows Vista and I was trying to run it in 7... but would compatibility mode cure that do you think?

The motherboard has jumper to clear the Real Time Clock (RTC) RAM in CMOS. In the default (normal) position the jumper is on pins 2-3.
To clear CMOS, follow these steps:
1.Disconnect the power cord.
2.To clear CMOS settings, temporarily set jumper CLRTC to pins 1-2.
3.Wait 5-10 seconds and then return the jumper to pins 2-3.
4.Reconnect the power cord.
5.When you startup the PC you will need to enter BIOS setup to reset any custom BIOS settings.

Which E6600 do you have? Your motherboard supports the Core2Duo E6600 (2.4GHz) which is not the same thing as the Pentium E6600 (3.06GHz). If you've got the Pentium flavor, BIOS may be configuring it as if it's the Core2Duo flavor (or not configuring it at all if it doesn't recognize it). An incorrect or missing configuration setting might cause a hang.
