I am finishing a gaming build. I have a amd athlon x4 860k. I want to know what the best graphics card i can run. I also want to know what i can run in sli or crossfire for the future. I have no preference. nvidia or amd works. Would i be able to run a 980? Would i be able to run a r9 290x?

I'd hate to say it but you're going to be bottlenecking pretty bad with that CPU and any high end gpu. In my opinion upgrade the CPU and get a gtx 970. Great price/performance, it has a very low TDP, and it stays extremely cool, making it very easy to sli.

Hi,
Your CPU will hold you back... If you want better gaming performance you need to upgrade your CPU first, however without knowing the rest of your build it is difficult to say.

What is your PSU?
What is your MB?
What is your RAM?
What is your budget?

I am going to get a evga g2 750 watt. I have 6gb of ram at 1600mhz and another 8gb of ram at 1333mhz. I have a asrock a88x fm2+ pro3+ atx mobo. I guess the budget would be a $1,000 just for a sli setup.

1. Do not mix RAM. Keep one KIT and remove the other one. Only install KITs.
2. I would upgrade your CPU first.
3. Single 970.

A 970 will run about $350-$400.
Leaving $600.
New I5 CPU = $300
New MB = $150
New RAM = 150

I don't think you can SLI a 970 with your current CPU.
