Does the CPU or other components affect download speed?

i have a laptop and a desktop. my desktop can download using utorrent at average of 6mb/s whereas my laptop can only go upto 1.7mb/s maximum.

Is there a reason this is happening.?

Also i have tried wireless and wired connection on both - still gives my same speeds

Note (this is using utorrent) i also have the same antivirus- McAfee with malwarebytes running on both

to improve internet speeds you can take off the desktop while using the laptop or make sure you have a properly working ethernet\lan cable plugged into the laptop .. disconect a few device off the network as they slow down bandwidth ..
there is not much you can do than try improving the pc speed to see if it does better at the internet .. you can also turn off auto update in windows and the antivirus so you have more internet bandwidth

yes actually if the desktop has a better specs it will tend to download and do online playback a bit faster than the lower one but that drastic drop in speed your are stating is not normal .. you may have a fragmented drive or a virus or something slowing down the laptop .. its not supposed to be that much

i frequently do full system scans and it comes up with nothing because thats what i thought it might be.

my laptop is only a few months old so there shouldn't be many problems with it :/ it is a relatively cheap laptop with basic specs for day to day tasks... if its the laptop specs decreasing it is there any way of improving it without replacing parts?
