Okay so on the specifications on the i5 4690k it says it accepts up to 1600 but I see people that use higher frequency ram on many processors (like i7 4790k) that can can accept up to 1600. So what will happen if I add higher frequency (I'm planning on using 2400) to my build? I read through previous threads that it underclocks it to 1333 and you have to manually overclock it to its original speed which seems complicating. What will happen? On another thread I read that it's okay and the processor will take the ram as long as the motherboard supports it (I'm planning on getting asus Maximus 7 so in my case it will)

Solution
yah it'll work with no problems as long as the mobo supports it which that one does. if i understand it right those faster ram sticks are just overclocked 1600 speed sticks with higher timings so technically they are 1600 speed sticks as far as the cpu is concerned.

Indeed, the board will likely recognise its JEDEC settings,
you would have to manually set the XMP profiles in your BIOS to set it at its rated capacity.
