I have a Motorola - SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 High-Speed Cable Modem and the current router i have is Linksys E3200 routher but it seems im getting non consistent internet speed through out the house and some locations im getting a lot lower then that i should be getting. My internet is cox and i have 100mbs plan. I get 120 mbs on my laptop with Ethernet cable but from my room i get 20mbs or less when i get 50mbs + like everywhere else. and lately my internet has been dropping quite often. I feel like the problem lies in my router. If you know what might be causing this plz tell me :)

Solution
make sure there are no large objects that could interfere (like a washer machine) in the path of the device and router. I have also seen (personally) in some older houses the duct vents (or exhaust vent) and old aluminum insulation can hinder performance. If you have access to an android smart phone you could get an app called WiFi Analyzer (you can google it) and use it on the phone to check the signal strength of the router at the point you are having issues with. If the signal is below -60db you will have issues and if below -70 you will even have potential drop offs. If this is the case for you (not saying it is, just if) sometimes moving just a foot or two...left or right, up or down, can alleviate the problem if it is...

update: you can also try turning off the lights in the room. I have seen some lightbults actually cause interference (i have experienced this with CFL's personally at a customers house) and just changing the bulb could help. We tested various attempts with lights on and off and when switched to regular or LED the problem went away. Just a thought

not to be a copy cat but +1 for uplink-svk. your router is a good one.

also, not knowing the layout of your house, that might be an issue.

I just did a job at a persons house about 3 weeks ago. Tri-level house with modem/router combo (service provider model) on middle floor on east wall. on bottome level (or .5 level down) speed went from 100 on mid level to 2 on bottom level. He informed me of old aluminum insulation. We tried a homeplug with a second wireless router (in bridged mode) to see if that would help the problem (he had a linksys router (personal) that he wasnt using. After all settings were done, speed was increased to 34. So, with permission, drilled some holes and ran a deicated ethernet from router 1 to linksys (router 2) and speed jumped to 80 on bottom floor and surprisingly enough helped the upstairs also since right above router 2

One more slightly offtopic. I started using the powerline ethernet adapters, and they perform superb. If You're not forced to use wi-fi, I strongly suggest to enrich houses infrastructure with powerline ethernet adapters. So far I have only 6 installations on including my own flat at my account, but they are awesome. They lose internet signal from time to time, but they are the second best solution to optical/metallic cable.

To my? I'm using up to three devices, TP-LiNK two wired units and one AP capable. Or that wasn't question for me? :) I haven't ried pairing more than 3 units.

And one more, overall reached distance of the powerlines are up to 100 meters. I have 300-500 MBPS speeds, which is excellent for the technology.

sorry,
would you provide some info as to your layout was to the original poster as in house layout (large rancher, tri-level, two story, three story and placement of router).

powerlines are great nowadays. i just went the ethernet route with my customer because of age of house and some of the circuit breakers and electrical were wired funky (example, one turned off two outlets downstairs in one room while also turning off bathroom upstairs and another outlet in another room upstairs....almost like they just ran the wiring and then had all the wries with no lables at the breakerbox and said....hmmmm lets just do 5 lines per breaker and let someone else deal with it....LOL).....otherwise i use them when people dont want to wallfisch or custom wires.
