MSI R9-290 vs GIGABYTE R9-280X, which is better if they are both the same exact price?

My friend is getting a new GPU and is wondering which one should he get considering they are both $260

Well my friend said he heard bad stuff about MSI and also the MSI version is the only one that is$260 lol. He also said that it doesnt come with the AMD gold thing that gives you three crappy games but i told him that doesnt matter. I like MSI some though

I guess the only factor that you could consider is the game bundle. But that is probably WHY its so much cheaper.

So does the R9-290 perform better than the R9-280X in every way? Doesnt the R9-290 have lower CLock speeds and memory speeds? Would the R9-290 play games better such as Crysis, Skyrim RealVisoin ENB and i guess mainly would the R9-290 be better in every way since the prices are the same ?

WOW! i bet it will rip skyrim RealVision a new one lol. But i have doubts his PSU will handle it, its the same as mine the XFX TS 550w

What CPU does he have?
It should be fine, that is a really good PSU.

Although if hes running an AMD FX CPU, its a bit close.

The connectors have specific ratings. 150w on the 8pin and 75 on the 6 pin, but that does not mean a PSU can provide that much.

Yours can. So thats the max it will provide via those connectors.

If you want to understand PSUs its not just as simple as that.

The 8pin is rated for 150w and will provide 150w if your PSU is capable, YOUR UNIT IS.
The 6pin is rated for 75w and will provide 75w if your PSU is capable, YOUR UNIT IS.
