MSI R9-290 vs GIGABYTE R9-280X, which is better if they are both the same exact price?

Solution

If you want to understand PSUs its not just as simple as that.

The 8pin is rated for 150w and will provide 150w if your PSU is capable, YOUR UNIT IS.
The 6pin is rated for 75w and will provide 75w if your PSU is capable, YOUR UNIT IS.

Well my friend said he heard bad stuff about MSI and also the MSI version is the only one that is$260 lol. He also said that it doesnt come with the AMD gold thing that gives you three crappy games but i told him that doesnt matter. I like MSI some though

So does the R9-290 perform better than the R9-280X in every way? Doesnt the R9-290 have lower CLock speeds and memory speeds? Would the R9-290 play games better such as Crysis, Skyrim RealVisoin ENB and i guess mainly would the R9-290 be better in every way since the prices are the same ?

The R9 290 is A LOT better in every way.

Comparing card is never just as simple as comparing clock speeds.
The R9 290 has A LOT more resources available.

WOW! i bet it will rip skyrim RealVision a new one lol. But i have doubts his PSU will handle it, its the same as mine the XFX TS 550w

The connectors have specific ratings. 150w on the 8pin and 75 on the 6 pin, but that does not mean a PSU can provide that much.

Yours can. So thats the max it will provide via those connectors.

Max -12V Output Current (A) : 0.3 Max +12V Output Current (A) : 45, that would be 12V x 45A combined from both rails = 540 Watts theoretical, with all the components stuffed in it's "often" -100 watts. Well, sounds to me like fair enough :)

the 290 asks for a 150W 8 pin and a 75W 6 pin and my Xfx has a 12V 8 pin and a 45A 6 pin? m so stupid on stuff like this and I do not know how this all works lol. Could you just tell me like what the 8 pin and 6 pin can put out?
