PCI Express 3.0 x16 on PCI Express x6 1.1

I was thinking about getting an Nvidia gtx 650 but it was PCI E 3.0 x16 and its backwards compatible with PCI E 2.0 x16 and my Motherboard supports PCI E 2.0 X16 but it has a PCI E x16 1.1

why dont you just put it in the x16 3.0 slot then if you put it in x16 1.1 it will not perform as well as the banwidth is not as good as x16 3.0
