USB 3.0 ports not working Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P

I recently put together a build with the Gigabyte mobo. After getting everything running and installed I noticed the USB 3.0 ports not working correctly. As a n00b to the field, I googled and researched what might be the problem. I went to the BIOS and made sure it was enabled. I went to the device manager, uninstalled, and reinstalled the ports. Initially, I loaded the drives from the CD, but I downloaded the drivers from the website and I'm getting a funky message about the hardware not being available, but I'm able to run some of the other driver applications with no problem. So I'm officially stumped.

The funny thing about it all, it will charge my phone and other devices if its connected to the port, but will not recognize the device.

Again, to make sure I didn't lose anyone in the wall of text. I have a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P mobo. My USB 3.0 is enabled in BIOS and Device Manager recognizes the ports because there are only three. I uploaded the drivers from the CD. Downloaded the drivers and ran them, but the app will not work.

What the muff should I do next? Thank you in advance.

Sorry for taking so long with the response. I was wrong about the files. When I download the drivers I get one folder and a setup.exe. The folder is labeled UASP when I click on this one I get two .exe files. One says x64 while the other says x86. Both are the same version, but with different xnumbers.

Like I mentioned before, when I try to run the setup.exe I get the the error message I mentioned earlier. Sorry for the misunderstandng.

I had exactly the same problem. Load the usb3 drivers from the motherboard CD and usb3 will work. It is when the os downloads 'updated' drivers usb3 stops working. On the devices and printers tab on Windows 7 64bit, there is a bar at the top that 'invites' you to download realistic icons and device driver software from Microsoft. Allowing this to happen is what screws up usb3.
Install Windows first, then the mobo driver cd. Problem solved, but do not allow driver update from Windows.

I have the same problem. USB3 XHCI controller and hub disappearing from device manager after a while.

I discovered, that it can have something in common with graphics card (maybe another HW). The VIA driver obtained from official Gigabyte website was functional in my case.

You don't have to install all those fancy apps, just extract the file, run setup and grab the temp driver folder:
Code:
C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Temp\is-RANDOM.tmp\USetup\xhc
I have two GA-970A-DS3P boards. First was used with HD6850 and the USB3 was working correctly. The second was with Quadro FX5800. I replaced the Quadro by the first HD6850, and the USB3s suddenly reappeared in the device manager! Than I obtained HD6970 and inserted it in the first board as a replacement, and USB3 disappeared.

Today, after few days of using of the second board, the USB3 disappeared again!! WTF? Can somebody explain me this? The only things I did: .NET 4.5.x installation (required by AMD Catalyst Installer), graphics driver installation, Windows Update.

2x GA-970A-DS3P, Win7 64bit here.

I solved the problem in my case! When the USB3 XHCI controller and hub disappear, turn off the PC and unplug it from power outlet for 5 minutes (thanks to Bobtran12). You might speed this up by pressing the power button while unplugged to discharge the board.

And then you have to install the USB3 drivers also on one of the USB2 hubs. (USB2 compatibilty)

Driver date: 29. 5. 2014
Driver version: 6.1.7600.4701
from Gigabyte website Win Vista - 8.1 (mb_driver_via-usb3.exe)

As I already posted, you don't have to go through the setup. Just keep a copy of the driver folder, once the setup loads:

Code:
C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Temp\is-RRRRR.tmp\USetup\xhc
You can then exit the setup. Now go to device manager and manually install 3 devices:
- VIA USB 2 Hub
- VIA USB 3 Root Hub
- VIA USB eXtensible Host Controller

The latter two might be displayed as "unknown devices" or something similar. But the first as "USB Root Hub" (1 of 8) and looks to be working. So either try to install all 8 (one will succeed), or find the correct one by different HW ID. VUSB\VID_2109&PID_3431&REV_0420

In my case the "VIA USB 2 Hub" seemed to be working before and used the generic MS driver (as the other 7 do). But one USB 3 HDD caused it to fail and become disabled by Windows. No disappearing since I installed this driver. Tested for 1 month.

Actually there is already a newer driver (6.1.7600.4903). I'm testng it on the other board - works too.

I had the same issue with this board..but I noticed that it was due to changing a setting in the bios from IDE to Sata (can't remember the exact setting and I am not home right now)...if I select Sata, then USB 3.0 stops working altogether, only work if IDE is selected.. don't ask me why, but it just does. I noticed this because USB 3.0 worked if I cleared the bios, so I knew it must have been something I changed and noticed it was that setting.
