Windows 8.1 Acting Strange

Hello,

I'm having a few minor issues with Windows 8.1 64x and can't seem to figure out what the issue is. I reinstalled my OS a week ago, problems persist. This is a genuine copy, downloaded from the Windows store with a genuine key. Quite experienced with PC's, though this has me stumped.

Windows Update will not remember my settings, within half an hour of selecting "Install Updates Automatically or using the Let Me Choose option, if forgets and starts asking me again.

I have the taskbar set to auto hide, but it rarely does and often will not go down when there is nothing opened to keep it up.

When pulling to the bottom right of the screen to pull up Settings, Control Panel is always highlighted. Even if I close that little menu after highlighting something else, it always is.

I've never had these problems with Windows 8.1 up until a month ago, and I can't seem to fix them.
All updates are installed. System has been reinstalled. I've run full scans with Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware and BitDefender to no avail. And I've tried run the CMD windows error check.

Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks for reading and your help in advance.

Fresh install.
Only thing that's the same is that I'm using the same User Account, via Microsoft.

Someone on another forum suggested I try a local account and see if the problem persists, so I'm going to try that now and get back here when done.

Oh yeah... try creating a new account just for the computer. I remember a few strange things happened when I reinstalled windows 8 for the second time.

It seemed like it wanted to go and grab my old settings.

Try deleting your old user and create a new fresh one with a new microsoft account.

I would call Microsoft support you should have some type of support since you purchased from Microsoft.

I just created a new account, which fixed the issues I'm having.
It seems that my account is the problem, any idea how I can fix it without needing to create a new account?

Going to contract Microsoft now and see what they come up with.

Contacted Microsoft, they basically told me to create a new account because this one is corrupted. They had absolutely no advice on how to just reset my account back to default.

Had a read of that article, did everything it suggested to no luck.
Guess I'm just going to have to create a new account because these little things are really starting to get on my tits.

EDIT: Think I'll just deal with this shitty account until Windows 10 officially releases.

LOL quality quote!!!

Seriously, just create a new account just for your windows... doesn't mean you can't use your old account for emails.

It was probably your profile was corupted. Yesterday I turned on a laptop that hadn't been turned on since July and it had over 70 updates. I left it up all night and when I woke up it was complete and me wallpaper had changed to the same on my other machine and my wallpaper on the technical preview. If I change the wallpaper it changes it on all machines.

Just reinstalled my entire system to make sure that it was definitely my profile.
After installing the entire thing again, I was able to narrow down the problem to Steam. I don't know why, I don't know how, but this issue only occurs when Steam is open, and since it's the first app I open when the OS boots, I wasn't able to narrow it down before. At least now I know and I can go about trying to figure out what Steam is doing to cause the issues.

I'm surprised I've not seen anyone with the same issue, and that the Microsoft employee had absolutely no clue either, I would have assumed they would of heard this issue from someone else.

Oh well, hours wasted, but at least I was able to figure out the underlying issue.

Thanks for all your help and to everyone that posted back trying to help.

I'm happy you found out what the problem was.... you know, a reformatting once in a while is not a bad idea :)
