I check the HD Sentinel S.M.A.R.T report which shows 452 bad sectors. But when I ran a Surface test all sectors were reported to be good.

What does this mean? Also, can I partition the hard disk in a way that the bad sector are not accessed?

Thanks!

Solution
Windows automatically manages bad sectors for you. However once you have a significant amount of bad sectors, usually more will keep turning bad.

Its like cancer. Sectors that have turned bad cannot be recovered, only reallocated. Its usually a sign of a dying drive.

However by the Power on count and hours I see it has already been used for a long time.
Hey there, magnabolt!

The best way to see which one is showing you a relevant status of the drive is to test the drive again.
You can do that with another software as the one huilun02 suggested.
You can also run chkdsk in Windows' Command prompt to see if it will display any bad sectors.
You need to go to the Start menu >
Open "run" >
Type in "cmd" >
Then type the command: chkdsk c: /r
This will locate bad sectors and recover readable info on the drive.

Hope this helps. :)

Your hard drive is failing.
Once a sector if found to be bad it is marked and reallocated with another good sector. Most disk have a 5% or more area that is hidden to be used as need for reallocation.
Once it is marked and reallocated it no longer shows as available space.

At this point your best option is to purchase another drive and clone the contents to the new drive before the old one completely dies.

Crystal Disk Info is showing 452 bad sectors too.

I have backed up my data. I was wondering whether there was any way to partition out the bad sectors and use the part of the HDD that can still be read until I get a new hard drive.

Exactly what @huilun02 said!
Truth is you can never know how much longer it will be usable.
There are some that last a longer than expected and there are some that may fail at any moment.
Practice shows, it's always when you least expect it.
It's a good thing that you already have your data backed up, though.

So fingers crossed, you will be able to use it until you get a new HDD!
Good luck! :)
