Spikes in WoW fps and lag (unrelated to internet)

Some WoW encounters, my FPS is totally fine and I can go from start to finish with no problems. However, sometimes from the pull of the boss, my screen will just freeze up and my FPS will drop to <1. Sometimes this goes away and I manage to play for the rest of the fight but other times it continues for the whole thing. I play on the lowest settings and even when all of my addons are disabled, I still sometimes have these problems. Also, I have the issue of lag (if that's what you would call it) sometimes, where I would maybe just be moving around, take my fingers off the movement buttons yet keep moving. It has nothing to do with my internet but this can sometimes go on for 10-20 seconds before going away. This comes and goes. I am soon getting a new computer so this will soon be irrelevant but I would still like to know the cause of it as it has been tormenting me for months now!

Solution
Then its probably CPU or GPU instability. But seeing as you didn't overclock and the specs aren't ideal for WoW, I suggest just waiting it out till you get a new PC.

Thanks for a quick reply! Tried all of those things - memory diagnostics came up with nothing, likewise with the checkdisk utility. Tried out a couple encounters and the problems were still there. Nope, nothing is overclocked. Is it possible I have damaged my CPU or something? It isn't very powerful and I've maybe just put too much strain on it or something... I'm playing on a Samsung R580 Notebook with an I3 CPU @ 2.27GHz.
