read the post in the link, very interesting.

but is the GT 520 still my best option ?

there is one on eBay for around £30 which seems a good price for a new unit...

PNY GeForce GT 520 1GB DVI-I VGA HDMI Low Profile Passive Graphics Card

thanks

if it for gaming, then you will be sorely dissapointed, it really isn't very fast at all, and is really for those who don't have integrated (i'm entirely sure why that end of the market exists to be honest.
With a low profile case you are limited, have you considered transplanting the guts of the machine to a new case, where you would have the freedom to fit what you wanted?

Hi
in another post, this was a recommended card for my dell 530s....currently only using the integrated card.

the GT520 has shader level 5, whereas the inbuilt GPU has only level 2.

have ordered one, but note it does not come with a low profile adapter, wonder what video out ports will be available with the low profile plate.

my service tag is 1SB7R3J
do you think this is my best upgrade path for a low profile graphic card ?

if I have made a bad choice I can return it or possibly cancel it

read another review that says the hd6670 is better, but a comparison shows the GT259 to be better in Al ways except it uses more power 150watts, hope that's not an issue....

Hi
I managed to get the order cancelled.....I am looking at an HD6670.... is this a good choice ?

or do you have any other suggestion ?

must be low profile.

I think the hd6670 has a double bracket, hopefully this will be ok for my dell 530S

thanks

it's for my son, on a very limited budget......

he plays minecraft, is learning unity and has just bought arma 2 on steam, which requires minimum shader 3.

I have looked at the gt520 which I am now told is not so good, the HD 6670 and more recently the hd6570. which seems better by pass mark scoring.

not sure of power demand yet, will research this.

would really appreciate any suggestions

thanks

don't bother with passmark, look at toms gpu hierarchy (on front page I think http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/gaming-graphics-card-review,review-32899.html) . You are very constrained by the low profileness of the card, that's a real problem, arma 2 requires quite a bit of GPU grunt, which the 520 doesn't have. minecraft might benefit from it slightly. My concern is that you are throwing money into this card for little practical benefit.

will have a look .....thanks..

but could you please give me a few suggestions....

bit worried that this dell may have a 259w psu also....

have no money, so don't want to waste it, but need to improve the GPU

thanks

thank you very much....

I assume the power demand will be ok...

if it is, I will place the order this evening....

so grateful for your help....

I personally hate dell PCs ......almost no possibility of expansion.....and such a small psu,.....

found this on AMAZON uk

Palit GeForce GT 730 DDR3 Nvidia Graphics Card (2GB, PCI Express 2.0, HDMI, DVI-I, VGA)

doesn't mention cores......how can I determine this ?

also there is a 2gb version for only £5 more, I assume this is worth it, still 384 cores

ebuyer it is then...

placed the order....

also very hard sometimes to find power demand...some sites just quote the psu required....which doesn't help.

thanks for all your help.

best wishes

think ebuyer may be free post over £50.....and AMAZON is £5 dearer but with free postage, so no difference. as the Amazon is. market seller, I prefer ebuyer...as the card has a 5 year guarantee......incidently, is there included over clocking software or is it worth doing ? if so how else could it be done...

Re
N730K-1GD5LP/OC - 1GB MSI GT 730 OC Edition, 28nm, 5000 MHz GDDR5, GPU 1006 MHz, 384 Cores, D-Sub / DVI-D / HDMI, Low Profile Compatible
I believe this doesn't come with a low profile bracket....are these ' standard' or do I need one specifically for this card ?

Also if I use two slots, can I then use the via port as well on the second slot....assume I would then need two low profile brackets..

Thanks
