Hey guys, I just ordered an asus vs239h-p monitor and a set of Yamaha ns-sp1800 5.1 ch speakers. I am looking to hook the speakers up to the monitor but I heard it's not possible? How will I go about getting these speakers hooked up to my monitor?? Or do I just need to hook the speakers up to my PC to hear the sound?

Edit: is there anything special required to hook the speakers up so I can have sound on my computer ? It's going to be custom built.

OK...well....after investigating those speakers....that will not work. They need an amp or receiver of some sort. They cannot run directly off the monitor or soundcard.

If you had bought 5.1 computer speakers, you'd have (mostly) no problem.

http://www.asus.com/us/Monitors_Projectors/VS239HP/specifications/

I/O Ports
Signal Input : HDMI , D-Sub, DVI-D
AV Audio Input : HDMI
Earphone jack : 3.5mm Mini-Jack (for HDMI Only)

It takes HDMI in, and audio out through the single 3.5mm jack.

Why not hook the speakers up to the audio out on the motherboard?

I'm not sure, all I want is to use the ns-sp1800 speakers as an audio source for my PC. I didn't realize it was a home theater system til after I bought it:/ can I still hook them up to my PC for sound?
