So I can't choose between these 2 mobos. I've researched both and I think they're similar with a couple of difference. I then went to read reviews:
- The Gigabyte mobo had some reviews stating it was DOA and some faults with display and sound.
- The MSI had faults such as power failure.

I'm stuck which one to choose as both seem to be very good boards on paper. Any help would be nice and any other suggestions would also be nice.

Solution
I got z87 and its all good but for the same money get the latest not buy the past unless theres something z87 offers that z97 don't ?/

I just thought it would be the better move on that deal
seemed that his title of the thread the gap in the 2 boards s is kinda specs is wide its like the gigabyte board is a high budget board compared to the msi that's more mid high end so what does he really need in a board like the one black bird posted that's one x16 and so on or does he want 2 x16 for x-fire or sli and better vrm's and what not ??? its like comparing a apple to a orange?? or a 180 dollar board to a 110 dollar board

Thank you for your input. I just needed some guidance on what to buy as I'm just stuck on what to buy and I guess choosing a z97 makes a lot more sense as it's the latest and more up to date.

well that's the theory .. theres nothing wrong with the z87 but will it have the newer bios updates for the newer intel chips?? little things like that are something that may down the roda have you looking back and saying ''dang I should of went with the z97 because now I can use ...'''

you need to know for sure what your requirments in a board needs to be as far as today and something you may want to do down the road also .. like you get a board that only supports one gpu and cant sil or x-fire with it and then you want to and se you will need another new board to do so .. so you need a good plan to reference the boards that will fit your needs overall

that's like guys with buying a psu they go cheap and low watts then want to add a high end card or sli and find there going to need to buy another psu cause the one they got at first anit going to cut it . if they were to invest in a well thought out top tier power supply that would of covered all they would have to spend there money once and not waste it on 2 psu's that now cost them more than the one good well thought out psu would of

any way that's just me I try to plan on my build to what I need today and what ever I can think of that I may want to upgrade to down the road ..

I appreciate your help. I have looked into the new z97 motherboards and have made some decisions. I've chose to go with the i5 4690K. For the motherboard I'm choosing between the MSI Z97-Gaming 5 and the Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5.
Again both very similar.
