Linux Mint on laptop won't work with nvidia driver

I have a Lenovo y50 with a Gtx 870 or 60 and an integrated Intel card. I blacklisted nouveau, installed nvidia-331-updates from xorg edgers, and rebooted. I also installed nvidia prime. Linux mint is stuck at the logo on boot. It worked once but I could not get out of fallback mode.

Did you add 'nomodeset' to the kernel options?

Yes. I did the nouveau.nomodeset=0

Use only 'nomodeset', nothing else.

So I just reinstalled LM17 since I couldn't boot right. So do I add the xorg edgers ppa and then install nvidia-331-updates, nvidia-prime, and then blacklist nouveau in modprobe and the kernel? How exactly should I do it in the modprobe folder? Thanks for the help!

The proprietary drivers alone will not work.

I followed it up to the point where it tells me to use the driver manager. It says that there are no proprietary drivers in use.

I'm afraid I'm out of my element at this point. I run Gentoo, and we have a completely different package management system.

Your last link fixed it! Thank you! Is there a way to launch a game on Steam using the primus command? Otherwise I have to change the graphics device, log out, then log back in.
