ASUS Z97-PRO only booted once, gets stuck on Qcode 4F or 32 during POST

New out of the box mobo, doing the first test boot with i5 devils canyon and one stick of ram only. Didn't boot, went through a few "no display" troubleshooting guides, no joy.

Left the setup on my table overnight, gave it another "oh what the hell" boot - and it worked!

Got into the first BIOS screen, looked like everything was fine, but when i restarted it was back to doing what it did before that one successful boot.

A typical boot goes like this: on-board LEDs cycle through a few times, the Qcode board readout switches between a few codes, but often pauses for long periods of time on 4F (DXE IPL is started) and 32 (CPU post-memory initialization) then repeats the cycle again - CPU LED, MEM LED, "4F", "32", repeat... Eventually in one of these cycles it will get stuck, usually on 4F or 32 but others as well - 19, 13, etc - but only one time each.

I've tried using the BIOS USB Flashback feature, but does "5 secs of blinking light followed by solid light" which indicates error.

I was about to just start the return process, but that one successful boot is making me want to keep at it. Do I have a defective mobo or does anyone have any ideas or something else I can try?

Sounds like the memory test function kicking in ,as it checks possible configs for booting this process is usually initated by pressing the mem ok button solid red means ram is not ok pressing this button puts the motherboard into a cycle of testing of the ram until a bootable bios is found ,you didn't give details of your memory is it in the Qualified vendors list if not then the board was not tested with it ,which doesn't mean it will not work ,but it doesn't mean it will either ,have you any memory that is generic and DDR3

Alexoiu that appeared to do the trick! It booted up fine and also booted up in the case with everything installed - thanks. (Z97 does not have a CLR CMOS so i had to remove the battery.)

BIGBEAR, sorry if i didn't explain it well enough - it was the BIOS Flashback LED that was turning solid, not the RAM LED. The RAM is registered correctly in BIOS so appears to be working fine for now.
