Athlon X4 760K temperature problem?

I have tried to monitor the temp of my processor. I tried core temp, but it didn't display anything. I have tried Hardware monitor but I dont think the temps are very accurate. It says I'm idling at 70C but in the BIOS it said 50C. Is there something wrong with my chip or is it supposed to be like that?

I suspect so, especially if you get temperatures way too high if you run prime 95 for an hour or so and don't see any throttling or the computer shutting down, if you are really wanting to make sure that there isn't a cooling problem, replace the stock cooler with something like the Cooler master 212 EVO as it will do an excellent job cooling your CPU

The BIOS is going to be right as when you are at the desktop, you need to use AMD overdrive software to actually get the correct temperatures for your CPU. Once you have used the software to find out what the temperature is, then let us know and we will tell you if you have a problem or not

Downloaded AMD overdrive and it said that the CPU Thermal Margin was jumping around in between 45C and 66C. Yes the numbers were jumping around rapidly? Is this a problem?

Is that under load (if so, what type of load?) or is it at idle, as if that is under a load which is very variable, then that should be fine, but if that is at idle and the CPU is basically doing nothing, then you do have a problem

I wasn't doing anything while watching the temps so I say it was idle.

Then you've got a problem as the CPU shouldn't be fluctuating by so much, even at idle and the temperatures should be much lower as well. Next question, have you tried reapplying the thermal paste to see if that will make a difference to your temperatures?

Yes I'm running on stock cooling, but I replaced it with arctic silver 5 and even after the 200 hour cure, the temps didn't really improve much. I checked my temp in the BIOS and it said I was idling at about 40-50 C. It wasn't bouncing around like in AMD overdrive. I sense that theres something wrong with the temperature sensors on my CPU?
