My GTX 580 started causing problems, such as green squared artifacts after a while and it's not caused by heat. It happened while I played BF3, WoW, LoL, Dota2, once it happen during a movie but it restored really fast.
I started monitoring the temperatures and stuff, whenever I get those green artifacts, I saw that the GPU Usage went from (example) 40 to 100%, causing my game to freeze and the only solution is to ALT F4 and restart the game.
Sometimes I don't get the green artifacts, but the game still freezes and it says that a driver has stopped responding and has recovered, but that also makes me restart the game, else it just stays there frozen.
Some people from my guild thought I was over-clocking it, it was running on stock which is:
Core Voltage (mV): 1013
Core Clock (MHz): 772
Memory Clock (MHz): 2004
One guy sent me a private message asking me to try and under clock it with these numbers:
Core Voltage (mV): 963
Core Clock (MHz): 650
Memory Clock (MHz): 1500
I did that over MSI Afterburner, saved the profile and applied, since then I never had a single artifact appear or the display driver stop responding, only results when playing BF3 after this change was that the temp went a bit up and the fan speed.
Max temp never went over 78c
Driver version is 340.52, rolled back to it because I thought the newer versions were causing the artifacts.
Does anyone know what was causing it and why? I don't really have the $ to upgrade right now with the upcoming holidays and Xmas.
Any tip or suggestion is welcome, if you need more info, don't hesitate to ask!
Thanks in advance!
