How much of a performance increase would i see in gaming if i bought the i5 4690k coming from an FX 6350 @4.4ghz. I do plan to OC the i5 too. Also would it be worth it to spend the extra $100 on an i7 4790k instead? Or use that money twords a GTX 970? I currently have the GTX 770. Suggestions are welcome thanks!

It will depend on the game. For single threaded games (e.g. Arma 3), you will see an increase, but for a game like BF4 it won't be huge.
The 4690K is all you need for gaming. Save the money and buy a 970, which will give you the most noticeable change (the 970 is about ~35% faster than a 770).
