Buying a new PSU but I need to know if my motherboard can handle it.

Solution
you could get the most "powerful" PSU on the market and you would not have a problem.

PSUs only convert and output as much power as is demanded by the system you are attaching it to.

So the brand, power and/or quality of a motherboard/PSU in terms of compatibility is irreverent?

What components do you have in the PC? CPU? Video card?

Based on that, we can determine what wattage PSU you need.

The only other thing you need to worry about is the physical size of the PSU. Can you open the case and measure how big your current PSU is?

Assuming you have enough space for it, I would recommend the XFX TS Series 550W for $26 AR @ Newegg.

That's basically correct, there are no compatibility issues between any motherboard or PSU apart from there being the correct amount of pins in the mobo connector from the PSU, which is going to be 24 pins for any modern PSU or motherboard.

This statement is wrong , longer power supplies won't fit.

The power supply must be OEM sized to fit in the tower.
