Hey everyone!
Time to upgrade parts. For: Gaming, photography storage, graphic editing- but this would be mostly a gaming upgrade because there have been new PC games released that have crazy recommended specs and years ago when I built this PC (my first rig), I was told I would never need an i7 for gaming  by many people! Looks like things are changing a bit so... it's time.
So here is my current build:
Intel Core i5 3570k CPU @ 3.40 GHz
8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 SDRAM
Western Digital Caviar Black WD2002FAEX 2TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (163 GB left)
OCZ Agility 4 AGT4-25SAT3-128G 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW 2GB 256-bit (not oc'd)
Asus VS248H-P 24.0" Monitor
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit
1 x CORSAIR HX series HX650 650W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
ASUS Maximus V FORMULA LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard
Here's what I'm looking for:
CPU upgrade, to i7, noticing a lot of newer games are demanding i7 cpus. Looking for a decent one that will last me years.
Possibly a new HDD or SDD. I have a 2 TB HDD running out of space due to shooting photography in camera RAW. The files are huge and I don't want to compress any of them. I also have quite a lot of movies/tv shows downloaded to this drive. The SSD I have is great but it doesn't have a lot of storage and I have Windows 7 stored on it. Looking for a budget option here.
The GPU needs to go. The one game I love playing is Skyrim and yes, I can play Skyrim at 60fps without any mods, HD textures or ENB but that's no fun. I have quite a few now and I get low FPS in some areas of the game even after tons of tweaking. Not fun. It's a 2GB card anyway, 4GB seems to be the norm nowadays. This doesn't have be budget and I would like a EVGA (preferably) GTX 970 but I'm hearing a lot about coil whine.
Also regarding a new card- I'm not sure if I'd need an aftermarket cooler. That's where I need your suggestions, please.
I think I'm okay with the monitor and have no intentions of upgrading to Windows 8 or 10 anytime soon.
The ram, not sure about. What do you think? Would it be pointless to upgrade all these other parts and not jump up to 16GB?
Lastly the power supply and the motherboard. I'm aware that there is an upgraded version of the motherboard but I really want to skip it. I just want to make sure that my new GPU would fit it. And the power supply- I have no problems with it. So these I'd rather just leave alone. I don't want to re-build my entire computer because even though I built this first rig in the past, it was stressful- doing everything just right and ended up doing things wrong and having to replace parts. Not fun. Don't really want to touch the motherboard again. Don't want to do a lot of re-wiring. The case I have is the CM Storm Trooper. It's huge. I have the wires organized (to an extent) and do not want to mess anything up.
Looking forward to your replies!
So I'm hoping to hear your suggestions and advice, friends.
