Hey guys, I have a bit of a problem. I bought Windows 8.1 from Microsoft to install it in my new build. However, they didn't give me an ISO file to boot with. I see that you need to run their exe to get the ISO, but the problem is that I'm replacing my XP computer and it cannot run it. So now I'm stuck with a valid key, but have no way to use it. I thought about looking for an 8.1 ISO online and install 8.1 with my key with it. The problem is that many of those 8.1 are hacked version, and I don't want that. So any tips for me guys?

This is definitely one of the most annoying things that Microsoft has ever done.

What you can do is obtain a Windows 7 x64 official installation image from Microsoft's Digital River...

Scratch that. Edited my post. That's only the EXE.

EDIT: Alright, I see your problem. Apologies for not thoroughly reading through the first time.

You said you bought the student key? A quick Google brought me to this website, it may be able help you:

What you can do is obtain a Windows 7 x64 official installation image from Microsoft's Digital River distribution platform, install that, and then run the Windows 8 setup tool to download the Windows 8.1 x64 installation media.

I will try this. I don't need a key for this right?

I forgot about this.

No, you won't need a key for it. Windows 7 can be installed without a product key, it'll just be unactivated. With it, you can run the upgrade EXE and get the ISO. Then just burn and install. Make sure you have your key on hand for Windows 8.1 as it will not install without it.

Nope. You can install Windows 7 as a trial product and use it for 30 days before you must activate it.
