I'm planning on building my own gaming Pc, my budget is under €550 including Windows 8.1 I'm not too bothered whether it's Intel or amd cpu and amd or Nvidia gpu
(it's my first time so I'm going to stay away from things like overclocking)

In that budget range the amd choice would be 750k(or 760k,860k), all of them have similar performance. You can see how the stand up against intel g3258 in the link i posted. If you think based on the games and programms you use that amd will fit you best that's what you will choose.
