tried to mount a restore point on a usb drive. Now I'm not sure how to restore the drive back to normal

Hi,

So basically I've been trying to restore windows 8 back to an old restore point. I had one on a usb drive that also contained a lot of important files. Perhaps I was doing thing in haste but whatever I did, I can't see anything but the restore point on the drive now. I can't believe it would've deleted everything on that drive. Can anyone point me in the right direction to restoring this drive if possible? I'm honestly clueless as to where to begin.

I'm able to verify that the files are still there (though I think I have to restore them with some 3rd party software).
I think I accidentally created a restore point with the drive when I thought I was actually mounting an old restore point. Certifiably stupid, I admit.
