i have a msi b85m p33 motherboard, with an i5 4570 cpu. for some reason my keyboard and mouse stopped working today (they were working yesterday). as stated in the title, they appear to only work in the bios and when loading up the bios, but immediately turns off/something when it makes it to the login screen. i am on windows 8.1 someone please help.

Edit: i have already tried using different ports and they both flashed for a brief moment and turned off. I have also tried using the keyboard and mouse on a different pc, they both work normally.

I have had this exact issue and it still bugs me a times. So first off i would reinstall the USB drivers in case there is corruption there. Second, just do a manual look in all the usb ports you are using to make sure there are no bent pins in them or your mouse/keyboard causing a short.

I would probably Start with refreshing BIOS to default settings to make sure you haven't accidentally turned of USB support in the BIOS.

Beyond this then you gotta wonder does it recognize other devices in the USB ports, flash drives, external hard drives, cameras.... If not then it could be the voltage output isn't being done properly to the uSB headers.

I am not sure how to reinstall the usb drivers, when i cannot even access the device manager without a mouse and keyboard.
all the usb ports are currently working and there are no bent pins in any of them, i have done a BIOS restore defaults and no improvements.

Outta curiosity can you start it up and working in Safe Mode? if so there you can do the drivers.. If you cannot, then you may be looking at an issue with the USB controller on the MoBo. I would also make sure all your connections on the motherboard are fully connected, that in your BIOS that you reset it to OPTIMIZED and only try to use USB from the back of the motherboard.
