Hi.
I've been looking for laptops for quite a while now,and i noticed that intel goes with much less ghz than AMD but they have this Turbo boost mode which i completely do not understand.
Basically a i5 prossesor has 1.7 ghz and they claim it can go to 2,7 with turbo boost, and a relevant Amd A8 processor has a flat 2ghz . Now when (example) the Intel is on 2 ghz using turbo boost,is it going to be as fast as the A8 ?

You can look at benchmarks all day long or read countless reviews from people who have owned both. You say that the Intels are usually 100 pounds more expensive, but what 2 cpus are you comparing? Here in the US, AMD prices their cpus directly compared to what they compete with performance wise. Like you said, the A10 and the i3 are about the same price, well, they're about the same in performance too. AMD typically needs twice as many cores to compete with Intel which is why the 8 core FXs are priced accordingly to the quad core i5s. It's a myth that Intel's are "way more expensive" when you start comparing actual performance.

It's pretty obvious you're talking about the i5 4210U which is a DUAL core cpu with hyperthreading. I am not aware of any AMD A8 that does not have turbo so I'll assume you're talking about the A8-6410 which is a QUAD core cpu with a base clock of 2.0ghz and a turbo clock of 2.4ghz.

Like bignastyid said, you cannot compare clock speeds between two different companies directly. The i5 is much faster than the A8 despite having half as many cores.

There is no conversion chart, but it's pretty safe to say that Intel cpu's clock speeds are around 50-60% stronger than AMD cpu's clock speeds depending on generations and models of course. That means that an Intel cpu with a clock speed of 2.0ghz is still going to be a little faster than an AMD cpu with a clock speed of 3.0ghz.

Thank you for your answers guys !

I am a beginner as you already noticed ,so thats why my questions. Is there any real proof data that states that intel is much better than AMD,exept intel's marketing of cource? Intels are usually 100 pounds (in UK) more expensive,so you expect to buy something better, paying 100 pounds (about 200 dollars) more right? So if we go for a i3 against an A10 which i assume would be of similar price? (maybe im mistaken) would the intel be as superior as you mention ?
No hate here, just a begginer that hates rich corporational marketing.
