Screen freezes for a few seconds very frequently.

I'm running Win7 x64, i7 2.4ghz, 16gb ram, with an SSD for the OS. My mouse, keyboard, screen, everything has just recently started freezing for 1-3 seconds at random. Sometimes it will freeze every 20 seconds and other times every few minutes. I've updated the firmware on my SSD as well has ran check disk on it to no avail. There doesn't appear to be anything in the event viewer relating to these frequent freezes. I've also watched my CPU and RAM usage and they do not spike at all during these times, they are both under little load.

I've tried running LatencyMon and I get the error:

"Your system seems to have difficulty handling real-time audio and other tasks. You may experience drop outs, clicks or pops due to buffer underruns. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. At least one detected problem appears to be network related. In case you are using a WLAN adapter, try disabling it to get better results. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates. "

However, I have checked my power settings and I'm not throttling my CPU. I would like to update my BIOS, however I am stumped on where to find the correct update files for my Sager NP8170 laptop.

I plan on running MemTest86 tonight to check for RAM issues, but what else could I be missing?

EDIT: Also, whenever I'm playing a game there is no lag or freezing at all, only in the windows environment it seems.

Solution
Looks like you've got malware or something too aje7f6zj.SYS isnt a windows file. And Google doesnt know what it is

I would do a full scan with something

CPU-Z says the motherboard is Clevo P170HM, chipset Intel SandyBridge Rev 09, Southbridge HM67 Rev B3 and BIOS is AMI 4.6.4

I looked on the Clevo website but they only have updates from 2011.

All I can suggest is that you contact Sager directly. It does not seem as though there are any recent updates. This would not be unusual. Most laptops only get one or two updates, if any, since the hardware is surpassed so quickly and forgotten, unlike desktop hardware that may hang around for years.

I ran MemTest86 last night and it was error free. I noticed TCPIP.sys was listed as the driver with the highest execution when I ran LatencyMon. I also have been getting BSODs every few weeks with the error message "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" for file NETwsw00.sys. I've reinstalled my WLAN drivers, but that didn't fix it. I'm hoping I don't have to reformat, if anyone has any suggestions.

I only have 4 entries, must have cleared out the older ones accidentally.

I just did, it basically says that the BSODs are a result of the Intel® Wireless WiFi Link Adapter driver, which I've since updated. I'm not sure if the BSODs and the screen lag/stutter issues are linked or not, just thought I'd put it out there. I've noticed if I restart my computer it works pretty well for maybe an hour and then it progressively lags more and more. The only thing I can remember using before I started getting these problems is TCP Optimizer, but I returned all settings to windows defaults and it made no difference with my screen freezing.

CTRL ALT DEL to task manager and take a look at the running processes. See if there are any multiple instances that look out of place or if anything unfamiliar is using significant resources.

Open resource monitor under administrative tools and look at both the memory and disk tabs to see what if anything might be using abnormal amounts of resources.

Run full virus and malware scans to see if there is an infection. Might even be a good idea to run Malwarebytes free rootkit scanner to see if it picks anything up.

I'm hesitant to say I've found the problem, but after downgrading my ATI Radeon HD 6900M graphics card driver, the freezing has disappeared for the past few hours at least.

I agree, wait, that's exactly what I said. That makes two of us who've said it, it must be true. Nice catch on the .sys file though, I didn't notice that at all. Since .sys files are USUALLY device driver or core os files, it's possible it could have been a driver or system file that became corrupted or accidentally renamed somehow as well but it's highly likely to be related to the problems you've had. I'd still run full scans including rootkit scans.
