Was uninstalling some software during the daylight savings time change over. Tried to reboot my XP Pro System on a dual drive dual boot OS system.
When the Login Screen requiring my password appeared, the mouse pointer was locked and I could not tab to the login in screen either. My Login Icon is the only one that shows up at XP and Vista start ups. Tried in "Safe Mode", "Last Good Configuration" etc. The Login screen is still frozen under those options. Even tried the XP SP3 original Disk, and don't want to risk a reinstall at this time. Have too many files and licenses under XP Pro to risk them.
I can see the XP Drive and files when booting into Vista. Have spent several hours therefore backing up some critical files.
Can I bipass the XP Pro Login screen somehow?
Can I from Vista modify the User Accounts in XP Pro so as to remove the Passwords?
When booting from the XP Pro Cd, it keeps loading and never quite gets to the repair XP screen.
This is a desperate situation for me, thank you. I need to perform on Monday with these programs from XP intact and operating.
How can I boot into the "command prompt" from the XP Disk? if I need to?

At the logon screen, hit Crt-Alt-Del twice in a row, a username and password field should appear. See if you can type in your username and password in there.

It sounds like you may have a bad drive, maybe a RAM issue, especially if you can't even boot from a disk.

Thanks for the response
Have actually tried that a 'few' times now. Does not get me into the login box.
The drive is fine. I have connected to another system several times, and I can wander around in all the data and view all the files nad programs on that drive. I just can't login in to it. I have no clue as to where in windows or system 32 or wherever in Windows XP the files are located that would let me invoke the control panel or system restore from another hard drive and system. To access the current troublesome drive data, I plug into the original system that has dual drives and dual OS. I also have a two other computers running XP and I can connect the problem drive via an EZConnect cable. Also the ram should be OK, because have used that computer all week from the alternate drive and OS. I'm trying to avoid having to pay new licensing fees for my CAD programs and Engineering Programs by reinserting the original XP OS Disk. If it changes the server serial numbers or computer serial numbers at all, I have to pay. So any more suggestions? Have tried creating a boot disk also by downloading from Microsoft to CD and it just takes me back to the login screen, so I still can't get past it. I have downloaded also another Microsoft emergency boot program for floppy, but it comes in a 4.4 mb file, and it won't download into the copyable to disk size for a 1.4 mb external floppy drive.
So, still need help. Thanks.

If you contact the company you got the licenses for and talk to them I am very certain that they will reset your license for the programs. They all know computers and hard drives fail.

If you don't want to lose your files, either don't format the drive before doing the Windows setup or install it on another disk.

You can try a Windows Repair setup if you did not, that won't touch your files.

So, Hang the 9 Solution was INVALID. NO, IT DID NOT WORK AND WAS NOT VOTED AS BEST SOLUTION.
TO DATE, NO SOLUTION has been posted that corrects the issue.
Thank you?

Contact of Software Program Providers was and is fruitless unless you want to pay to upgrade licenses, so $25,347 later I could do so.
The Xp Original Disk also hangs ups.
THERE IS NO CTRL-ALT-DEL Functionality. There is no TAB FUNCTIONALITY as previously indicated. The MOUSE is simply FROZEN AS IS THE KEYBOARD. I have slowly erased or deleted files and folders possibly associated with the running of that hard drive and replaced with files from 1 to 2 other functioning XP PRO hard drives that I can read and transfer files from via EZ Connect.
Each time I DEL and Add Files and Folders, I seem to get just a little further in using the original XP Pro Install Disk to repair. It still only gets to a certain point though before it freezes up and I need to Power Off.
There is NO BAD RAM or other Hardware. It is all in the System Software somewhere.

I Indicated that I can Read the Entire Drive except for certain portions. Those I can can then read and transfer via logging into the Vista OS and taking control of those files and folders, and the transferring. Or simply transfer form one of the other newer XP Pro Drives. So, all data that can be transferred has been. I just can't boot the licensed programs in any of the new drives unless I go through the re license and re install process. Like I sad, $25,347 late I could be back to "normal". Though there are a couple of programs I can actually run off of that drive by going in and clicking on their exe. start files.
