i have newly built a pc.

here are the components:

cpu: intel i7 5820k
mobo: msi x99s sli plus
psu: seasonic x850 x-series 80+ gold modular
ram: gskill ripjaws 4 ddr4 2400Mhz 4x4gb (16gb)
cooler: deep cool maelstrom 120v hybrid AIO cooler
gpu: palit gtx 760 jetstream
hdd: 1tb WD blue
casing: fractal design define r4

all these are brandnew EXCEPT the gpu and the hdd. they came from my previous pc.

here's my problem.

after i managed to assemble everything, i booted the pc. IT BOOTS, i checked the bios if it correctly reads the specs. it reports the correct cpu and the 16gb of ram. I DIDNT DO ANYTHING TO THE BIOS, NO OC, NO BIOS UPDATE.

So i went on on installing windows 7, after installation, i am already convinced that i have successfully assembled the PC. however upon browsing the net and installing the basic drivers, the PC shuts down. no error, no beeps no bsods. it just went off. i tried turning it on again but it never came back to life again. when i press the case's power button, the fans and leds will start running, no beeps and no display, no peripherals too. after a few seconds it shuts down again.

i then start fumbling on the pc again to isolate the problem. i really had a hard time since i have no spare parts to substitute considering the components are still rare today. fortunately, i tried removing/reseating the rams, 4 stick of rams. first i tried just using 1 stick (4gb). to my small relief, the pc turned on again normally but it warned me of a changed memory. then i tried to add the second stick. note that i followed the order of slots needed to be populated first according to the mobo's manual (it has 8 ram slots). at this point, the pc wont boot up. i tried reseating for numerous times to no avail, and of course i tried switching the rams and using the other rams. i also verified that all the rams are working by using it alone (on the first slot).

i am thinking it would be the mobo at fault, but i want to hear what the experts will say. please help! thanks.

note that i have made it clear that i managed to boot the pc with 17 gb (and not to mention, it detects my cpu). so, am i correct to assume that i have installed the cpu correct? because this is what i fear most, installing the processor wrong and physically damaging it.

and before you mention it, i already tried clearing the cmos, and reseating the battery.

although i have read that thread over and over again, i think it wouldnt apply anymore to my situation as i have made it clear the pc booted up to the windows on the first try. isnt that troubleshooting thread more applicable to freshly built pc that didnt boot at the first try?
