Overclocking advice for a new build?

Hello,

I just built what I consider to be a pretty beastly system, but I wanted to make sure I'm getting the most out of the build. I'm pretty experienced with hardware in general, but not so much with overclocking and the bios options today are overwhelming. I've looked at some guides online, but I'm looking to the experts to help push me in the right direction (or better yet, just tell me what to look at/do).

Build:

CPU Cooler: CORSAIR Hydro Series H50 Quiet Edition Water / Liquid CPU Cooler. 120mm

PSU: CORSAIR HX Series HX1050 1050W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell Quad-Core 3.5GHz LGA 1150 84W

Mobo: ASUS Z97-AR LGA 1150 Intel Z97

Mem: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-16GXM

HDD: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE500BW 2.5" 500GB SATA III TLC SSD

GPU: Asus Nvidia GTX 980 x 2 (SLI)

I've gone as far as OCing the CPU manually, using at 4.5GHz across all cores, and setting voltage to 1.2500v (was crashing at 1.2000). But, I feel like I a missing a lot of potential.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you need any further information, I'd be happy to provide it!

Thanks in advance,

Mike

overclocking the gpu to the max and I don't now how far that is, wil not give you that much extra fps when using 2x 980 why would you overclock them, just find a nice stable overclock for your cpu 4.5ghz 0 is enough on a as lo vcore as possible and its more then enough

In running PCMark8, when I get up to a sustained 4.5GHz (for about 15 minutes), The temperature goes between 58-64 C. If you know of any better ways to test, I can get the results.

I suggest not going beyond 4.5GHz because the original Haswell processors are not particularly good for overclocking. Intel used cheap-ass TIM under the CPU lid which is not so good for cooling. Your H50 isn't ideal for pushing overclocks either. Its like at the bottom of the Corsair Hydro series and many traditional air coolers outperform it. Somewhat a low end AOI liquid cooler.

But of course it is entirely possible to still get very good temps. There's little point pushing the CPU so far unless you are aware of the gains to be had if you run some extremely CPU heavy applications.

Sorry, I should have mentioned my goal, that would probably help!

I'm trying to maximize for 4k gaming, that's pretty much it. If my CPU is fine at 4.5, then I will leave it where it is. What about OC the GPU or memory?
