I have an Acer Aspire M5-581TG and I used to get transer speeds of up to 90MB/s.

Recently, I upgraded the MSATA SSD and had to basically reinstall windows from scratch because there were complications with moving the operating system across.

I think the switch may have caused some of the drivers not to function properly, i.e. my graphics card was not configured properly. My new transfer speed is in the region of 20-30 MB/s and I can't understand why, or how to fix it.

Apologies for the lack of detail, I don't fully understand the problem, or where to go to fix them.

Hey there bav and welcome to Tom's Hardware forum :)

The speeds are slow indeed. I would suggest you start by checking if you have all your latest OS and BIOS...

Hey there bav and welcome to Tom's Hardware forum :)

The speeds are slow indeed. I would suggest you start by checking if you have all your latest OS and BIOS updates, hardware firmware and drivers. Also, is the speed slow on all external devices and on all USB 3.0 ports that you are using or just on specific ones?

My guess is a driver issue so you should check if you have all the latest ones.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me so soon. I have just tried to use my usb 3 external hard drive in all 3 ports. I have 2 usb 3 ports and one usb 2, and all 3 have roughly the same transfer speeds.

How do I check whether i have the latest OS and BIOS updates? I have ran the windows "check for updates" function and it comes back saying everything is up to date? I have also gone into the device manager to update the usb drivers, but i don't understand what all the devices are, but they're all up to date (please see picture attached)

I have just managed to solve the problem by the Boot Mode from Legacy BIOS to UFEI and my transfer speed is back up to ~90MB/s.

Thanks to those who looked into this for me!
