Question About Motherboard Compatibility

I'm a beginner builder and just had a quick question.
I was told by a friend that this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128565&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Because the mobo PCI is 2.0 and the GPU needs 3.0 or something? Just wondering if anyone can confirm that the GPU will work with the mobo or not. Thanks.

I thought the same thing months ago but I was corrected by a moderator with a long explanation. No performance lose at all between 2.0 and 3.0

It will work, maybe not as fast as it might in the 3.0 slot, you may not even notice the difference though

It's sort of like USB 2.0 vs 3.0... 3.0 is kind of a slightly faster option, there really aren't any devices that require it
