Need to upgrade question

Greetings,

I currently own a Latitude E6510 with an i5 M540 processor and I have 4GB of DDR3 RAM installed. Besides normal desktop functions like browsing the web and stuff I also have an XP Virtual Machine installed(I assigned 2GB of ram to this) using VMWare on which I am running a SQL Database, Software Testing Automation tools (QTP), Test Case Management tools (ALM or Quality Center). My desktop performance is not at its best. It works but it is kind of jittery and freezes up once in a while, especially when I am running both the virtual machine and the desktop at the same time.

I would like to upgrade my ram to possibly something along the lines of HyperX or G.Skill. I have read that some type of ram with "High Speed & Low Latency would be the best bet for ram upgrades" could someone please advise me?

My current 2 sticks of 2GB ram look as follows:
Type: DDR3
Size: 2048MB
Manufacturer: Nanya Technology
Max Bandwidth: PC-8500F (533MHz)
Part Number: NT2GC64B8HC0NSBE
Week/Year: 23/10
Channel#: Dual
CAS# Latency (CL): 7 Clocks
RAS# to CAS# Delay (tRCD): 7 Clocks
RAS# Precharge (tRP): 7 Clocks
Cycle Time (tRAS): 20 Clocks
Command Rate (CR): 1T

I would also like to kindly ask if someone could tell me a something about overclocking as I have heard this is a good thing and buffered vs unbuffered memory.

I really appreciate anyone who could take time out of their busy schedule to help me out.

Thank you,
Sayeed

From G.Skill, this is the model you want:

F3-8500CL7D-8GBSQ

That is the ideal memory kit.

That laptop won't do any overclocking. Look into high performance systems for that option, any standard Dell/HP will have no capability.

PCs, laptops, and normal computers will all be unbuffered. Only server/workstation and special type computers will accept buffered.

Ram just search for 8 gb compAtible with the motherboard. Overclocking ram wont be worth it most of the time as i can say from experience it can go horribly wrong

could you please clarify? maybe with a bit more information rather than so vague. I really appreciate it. Also how could I find something that it compatible with the mother board. I went on the HyperX and G.Skill websites and they don't have any option like that to chooose a motherboard compatibility.

Look for the site pcpart picker- chose your mobo and it will come up with a list of compatible ram- look for what you want ( price range and size) and then read a few reviews- sorry doing this from a mobile so cant really go look.

I found pc part picker but the site does not have any thing on Dell mother boards. The Dell Latitude E6510 that I have has a dell mother board Model: 0N5KHN
