My computer is hooked up to my TV. How can I have sound on each device at the same time?

Hi,

As described in the title, I linked my computer to my TV via HDMI. Right now, I'm just using my TV as a second screen (extended display) so I can play games on my PC while my GF watches her show streaming from the net. The problem arises however with sound.

Is there a way to have the game sound on the pc speaker and the streaming shows sound on the TV at the same time?

Many Thanks!

Well if you stream a TV show and also play a game, doesn't the sound from both simply overlap each other in a big mess? It wouldn't matter what speaker configuration you have since they will both simply play the overlapped audio.

You will probably need two sound cards for this, but I haven't configured the setup before, so who knows. If the application can be configured to send sound out a second audio card, it would work.

I'm not sure how to check that, so I added this picture of my device manager window:

Yes the sounds overlap if I launch the 2 at ounce. So you are saying that I absolutely need extra hardware to direct the sound output correctly?

If I download the shows, could it be possible to have them streamed from my computer to the TV?

Thanks! I used this thread and configured windows media player to always output sound on my TV. I wish Chrome or Firefox would also have that option.. Or maybe there is an extension for it?

Anyway, thanks for the help!
