Can I get away with a 550W PSU and two R9 280x's?

I want to get another GPU in my system and I was wondering would I have to upgrade my PSU or it could take it.

Specs:

Motherboard: MSI Z97-G55
PSU: SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W
CPU: i5-4690k clocked at 3.5GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon R9 280X

P.S. No I do not plan on overclocking

Not even close , absolutely not.

Fine for 1 x 280X but add another 300watts for your second!

If you mean your existing power supply, it doesn't even have enough cables anyway. Each 280X is going to need a 6-pin and and 8-pin plug. Your PSU only has two total.

You would want a PSU with 4 x 6+2 pin plugs. I don't even know if there is such a unit at 550W; putting that many on it would be setting it up to be overloaded.

If you mean a second R9-280X, then the answer is no way. The R9 cards are very power hungry.

If you mean a replacement for the 280X, then your 550w psu which is excellent can handle a GTX980.
