My Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop hard drive failed & Windows wouldn't load.
There are two hard drive units in the machine which I believe are serial units.
I've tried taking them out and plugging them in to a unit which connects to another PC via USB but am stuck at how to read any files (if it's even possible). The first HD seeems to have a Recovery drive with Public files and an OS NTFS drive which I can't access (no permission I think).
The second HD seems to have 4 image files which I don't know what to do with.
I am somewhat out of my depth - what should I do next?!
Thank you for any advice.

Solution
the last drive is locked by your os so try to recover your data with any of linux live cd....

live ubuntu will work best for you.......

Hope these may help - the first two are the two drives & the third one is the test that identified the hard drive as the problem.
Thanks.

I'm sorry if I'm being a bit dim... how do I use either of these? Do I download the program to the working PC and just open and run it or is there more to it?
Thanks.

you have to download an image of bootable cd

then you have to burn that image to cd and then you have to restart your pc with the help of that cd....

then choose the first option and then explore your data copy important data and format it as ntfs...

thats it....

Ha ha, you make it sound so easy!
I think I will go and watch a couple of YouTube videos as well before I am brave enough.
I will give it a go though - thank you so much for your help, I had hit a brick wall before but now there is hope.
Thank you!
