looking for some decent ddr3 8gb system ram for the MSI 970 Gaming AM3+ looking to pay around $80 to $100 if possible

If you haven't bought your motherboard, then I recommed to change it due to MSI poor QC.

Regarding the RAM, try any 1600MHz or 1866MHz. For manufacturers, I recommend either G.Skill or Corsair or Kingstin. You may also want to take a look at the colour to fit your colour theme.

If you had experience withCorsair and liked it, I don't see a reason why not getting it.

I generally like Corsair Vengeance Red and it suits your motherboard theme too.
