My brother told me not to get COD Advanced Warfare for the PC because it is filled with bugs, glitches, and crashes, similar to battlefield 4 after it's launch.

Is this really true?

Well at this point we don't know the exact state of the game as it doesn't become available until tomorrow. However in general most games are not fully polished on the release day. Now BF4 is a pretty extreme example, but no game is perfect on it's release. id Software and Epic may be the closest to releasing near "perfect" games since from the beginning they refuse to announce release dates and say it'll be done when it's done. They have enough clout to not back down from their publishers.

I have gotten to the point of not purchasing games on their release date as I don't believe in paying full price for the privilege of being a beta tester. I wait at least a few weeks, read some reviews, read some forums, wait for patches, and...

I have not played CoD AW but as with most new games there are always bugs and glitches. They get ironed out over time with patches and hotfix's. How fast they are sorted depends on the company. Sorry I wasnt much help.

I have gotten to the point of not purchasing games on their release date as I don't believe in paying full price for the privilege of being a beta tester. I wait at least a few weeks, read some reviews, read some forums, wait for patches, and driver updates. By this time depending on the game, it may not be full price. It really sucks to pay full price and have to wait a few weeks to play the game the way it's meant to be played (without crashes, performance issues, and game stopping bugs).

Both my sons on the other hand are completely hooked on pre-orders. I have tried to explain to them that the "extras" offered in the pre-orders aren't worth paying ahead of the release date for. Not to mention the above advice. Still haven't won that battle though. The saying goes "a fool and his money are soon parted", so it is with my sons.

Essentially pre-orders are like gamers giving the publisher an interest free loan for an indeterminate amount of time (if the release date gets pushed) for little to no gain for the gamer. In my opinion the publishers have enough money, they don't need to borrow mine. I will purchase their products only if and when I feel they are worth it. You wouldn't buy a new model car without being able to take it for a test drive or read reviews or at the very least see it and sit in it, why would you do that with a game? Anyone who buys games simply by watching a few trailers deserves to get taken.
