I have an HP Pavilion dv7 LM414AV. There seems to be a design flow in this model where the power switch is part of the mother board and it breaks after some use. My model has been in and out of HP Repair shop for a year and a half and while they say they have replaced a whole bunch of parts, it has never really worked properly. Besides the bad motherboard, everything else in this laptop is great. I want to salvage it somehow. I also know that getting the same HP Pavilion motherboard does not work since this is really a manufacturer defect and the manufacturer, if they had an ounce of decency, would have recalled and properly replaced. Ideally I would get another brand motherboard and replace that part. Is there another Motherboard out there that would work? How else can I salvage the parts of this laptop?

Many thanks!

loos like there is an issue with that model. there few things you can do. start a class action against hp for replacement cost of the unit. if your in the us you can use your state lemon and the fed lemon laws in small claims court. all you do pay small fee. over seas look at your country lemon or product warranty. if you used a credit card you can call them up see if they do a charge back. call hp ask for customer relations or a level 2/3 support person.
see if hp will swap unit out for another.
