What cpu should I choose for either a r9 280 or an 280x ?
I looked at several 280s and the cheapest goes for 170€ vtx 3d x-edition
the 280x of my choice would be a 206€ xfx

I play games like bf4, total war series, far cry series, assassins creed series and plan on not upgrading my build for 3-4y since its a completely new build and i got 0 pc parts so far so i might as well do the best gaming setup that i can get for a reasonable price.

My choices are to either spend around as much for the cpu as for the gpu or to use more for the gpu and less for cpu.

What processors can you recommend me?
I thought about a build where i save money on cpu by using one of the best i3 and invest in the 280x instead of 280 or using an i5- 4570 plus the 280 . Im also open to investing for long term saving by using slightly more money on a i5 plus the 280x. I don´t know if the i5-4570 might be a bit overkill, maybe you could recommend me a better budget i5?
In total i definitely dont want a cpu to cost more than 180€.
Im not sure weather to go for a 1900x 1080 or 1600x 900 resolution either.
Overclocking is only a consideration for me if it does not cost much more by needing a better motherboard and cooling and if it does not really affect the life expectancy of the hardware.

I never tried OC and never bought a desktop system before so I am really in need of your advice and experience.

in advance thank you for your answers

Yep good bang for the buck with the 4460 and 280X.

An i5 4690k is the best option instead of paying alot an i7 or any other expensive cpu that you dont actually need, it is about £169 and because this is the "k" version its easily overclockable ;)

(Remember to pick best solution)

EDIT: as rolli56 said, 280 will be best, because the little difference between the 280 and 280x is too smal for the large price gap! 280 will be best bang for the budget

i5 and the 280x on 1080p. save a little bit longer for the stronger gpu or grab a used 7970 ghz for now for next to nothing and add a second 280x later on.

youll be very happy down the road with 2 of those

definitely get a k version and a decent mobo, once you start overclocking grab a decent heatsink for it for 30 bucks and your all set for a few years.

you cant know that but in my country the 4690k is 15€ more than i intended to use would´nt they be better spend on the stronger 280x or a better 280?
I will consider the k version but I got no clue how much extra i will need to spend on a motherboard if i overclock.
can you give me an estimation (i know i can google that but my laptop burned it self this weekend and now im without any own pc so im short on time for research)
thx for the input

thank you all for answering it gave me inspiration for what to look for.
I checked how big the difference between the i5 haswell cpus actually are and figured out the i5 4460 and the i5 4690k is the best bang for buck.
rolli said any i5 over 3ghz would be enough- this seems to be true since i found people saying that the usual bottleneck is the gpu .. seing that in some games the 280x is considerably better I will probably spend the 36€ for that instead of using a too expensive K version. the i5- 4570 was beaten by the 4590 but since i wanted the 280x i went for the 4460 wihich is 14€ cheaper and according to benchmarks not much weaker.
each one of you guys helped me , )
